This morning I woke up a little earlier so that I could go vote before I went to work. Cheryl followed me in her car as we drove to our polling place. I was expecting a long waiting line but I think there were only less than 10 people in front of us. We cast our vote for Obama. The morning started out great and finished even better.
After work I stopped at a hill to take pictures of the sunset and then went off to BevMo to grab some Pacifico beer and a couple of bottles of champagne to hopefully celebrate and Obama victory (I actually was pretty confident that he would win and for once I was right). When I got home Cheryl was sitting on the sofa watching some election returns. She had even better news; she was called to have another job interview in Santa Clarita. So now she said she wanted to go to bed early tonight because her interview was at 8 tomorrow morning. Her plan is to drive to southern California early in the morning. So we ate dinner as we watched the election results. At this time McCain was in the lead and for a while I was a little worried. As the night progressed the Obama machine moved to the lead and began getting closer to the 270 delegate goal. Just before the ballots closed in California and other western states Obama had climbed to 220 electoral votes and McCain was in the 135 neighborhood.
The champagne had been chillin' in the fridge and as the polls closed in California and California had 55 electoral votes I started to get it ready so that I could pop the cork. I got Brendon and Gabe together, got some glasses together, and went outside to pop the cork a couple of minutes after California was called for Obama. At our front porch I popped the cork and aimed it toward our neighbors across the street (McCain supporters). The cork came down on Brendon's car and we could hear it hit, hope it didn't do any damage. As I popped the cork I yelled out "Obaaaaaaama" hoping the neighbors heard. Anyway, maybe I woke Cheryl up because she came out and we gave her a glass to toast Obama's victory. She actually had not gone to bed. We were all very excited about the Obama win.
Obama addressed a pretty big Chicago's Grant Park audience after winning the nomination. About 4 years ago I first took notice of the man at the Democratic National Convention and at the time he had made an impression in my mind that stayed to this day. Tonight's speech was just as memorable, just as eloquent, just as inspiring. I wish him the best. Below is a video show casing his acceptance speech.
