This is a photo of a wood carving of a somewhat scary face that's in the backyard of downtown Sacramento's International Youth Hostel.

Esta es una foto de una máscara espantosa, hecha de madera, que está atras de un albergue internacional juvenil. Mi hija dijo que la espantó.

277 - DinnerCena

It was too hot to cook. The Cheez-Its were calling my name. I found that Cheez-Its and watermelon make a great dinner combination (though not very nutritious).

Hacia mucho calor para cocinar esta noche. Parecía que las galletas Cheez-It llamaban mi nombre (decian; David, comeme, comeme). Encontré que la sandia y los Cheez-it hacen una buena combinación para una cena rápida (pero con poca nutrición).

278 - Veteran's Memorial in FolsomMonumento a los Veteranos de Folsom

This is a picture of a statue in Folsom Park right across the main entrance to the Folsom Library. It's a memorial to Folsom veterans of wars. I think the essence of the memorial is the statue of this lady crying for the loss of a loved one. It's basically, I believe, a memorial more to the backbone of the person that stays home and keeps the family together (I don't think this was the intent of the memorial). These are the people that have more to lose. They raise children by themselves, they worry about those that are in the field fighting, they suffer when loved ones don't return home or come home injured physically and mentally.

Esta es una foto de una estatua en el parque de Folsom através de la biblioteca. Es un monumento a los veteranos de Folsom. Creo que lo más importante del monumento es esta señora que llora por haber perdido alguien que amaba. Yo creo que es un monumento más a las personas que se quedan atraz. A la mujer que se queda pero ahora es padre y madre a los hijos que se quedan. Ellas siguen criado a los hijos y a la familia y pierden lo más. Pierden cuando los que aman no regresan, o regresan heridos en el cuerpo y la mente.

279 - Remembrance Acuerdos

Eight months to the date I was kicking on the island of Kauai. I often think back to the magnificent beauty of its land and its people. I truly think that heaven will be something like this. Everyone seemed to smile and everyone seemed friendly. I miss the touch of the soft sand everywhere, the productive soil everywhere else also had a wonderful feel. Besides the beauty of its people and the beauty of the land and sea I thoroughly enjoyed when the people there thought I was one of them. I think that is one of the most wonderful feelings I have ever experienced. I have been mistaken for a Hawaiian, for Japanese, Filipino, Portuguese, African American (specially when I had braids), and of course a Mexican which I always thought meant a mix of peoples and cultures.

Hace 8 meses al día estuve en la isla de Kauai. Pienso mucho de esos tiempos y la hermosa tierra y gente de la isla. A deveras creo que el cielo es algo como esta isla. La gente parecía siempre estar en buena amistad. Pienso a cerca de la tierra, arena, y sus playas. Una de las cosas que me gustó más fué cuándo la gente creía que yo también era de la isla. Siempre me ha gustado cuándo gente cree que soy uno de ellos. He sido equivocado como hawaiano, japonés, filipino, portugues, negro norteamericano (cuando tenía mis trenzas), y por supuesto mexicano siempre creí que queria decir mezcla de gente y cultura.

280 - Wildfires ContinuedSiguen los Incendios Descontrolados

We've had so many wildfires recently that the air quality has suffered. Besides going out to do some errands around lunch time I stayed indoors.

Hemos tenido muchos incendios descontrolados que parece que todo el mundo fuma. A veces la toz me pegó fuerte a causa del humo. La mayoría del tiempo me quede adentro de la casa.







As you can tell, above, you can hardly see anything further than a couple of miles on any side of town. While I was at home I got a chance to watch Pangea Day on the Sundance Channel. It was a film celebration with messages dealing with social conscience.

Como ve, no se podía ver mucho, a lo más unas dos millas. En casa vi un programa llamado Día de Pangea.

During the Pangea Day show, one of the most beautiful songs ever, was played with children from all over the world singing John Lennon's Imagine.

Durante el programa; Día del Pangea, tocaron una de las mas lindas canciones de todo tiempo con chicos de todas partes del mundo cantando la canción de John Lennon Imagine.

281 - July 6, 2008Seis de Julio

The house seems almost empty now. Alice and Brendon began their trip back home a bit after 8 and DJ left a little after that.

David's girlfriend Joy came by last night and stayed to go to Folsom lake with us. About an hour ago David, Joy, and Marcus left so now only Mariana and Brendon are here. It was great to have family and friends over during my vacation from work.

La casa parece estar vacia. Alice y Brendon empezaron su viaje para regresar a Los Angeles un poco pasando las 8 de la mañana. DJ también se fué rumbo a Los Angels un poco después.

La novia de David, Joy, vino a visitar anoche y como ven abajo se quedó para nuestra visita al lago Folsom. David, Joy, y Marcus regresaban a su casa así que nada más Brendon y Mariana estan en casa. Tuvimos buen tiempo ésta semana en mis vacaciones que a deveras no fuimos lejos de casa este año.
